The Hop Fields of East Sussex
I have always been fascinated by structures which describe a volume with the merest gesture … lines ‘drawn’ in the air.
These images were taken a few weeks ago, out walking the fields in East Sussex. These are hop fields - with the wires and rope all in place and ready for the hop vines to grow. There was an extraordinary quality to the colours and light - with the fine sisal ropes catching in the sharp spring sunlight. One moment they all alight perfectly to form diaphanous intersecting planes; dissolving a moment later into a mass of lines.
I find myself returning again and again to found pattern in the landscape. Pattern created though the rhythms and actions of the agricultural year.
