A Place of Calm Purposefulness

I have just moved studios. The new space has wonderful light and height, and an extraordinary sense of calm purposefulness.

I first came across the space a few years ago when it was the design studio/ showroom for furniture designer Sebastian Cox. The light and feel of the space have stayed in my mind ever since, and I feel very lucky to be here.

These beautiful bull-nosed ply shelves were made for me by studio near-neighbour Guy Selwood-Miller. After all the heavy-lifting of the move, it’s been a real pleasure to unpack all the yarn cones - making a delicious palette of the gable wall.

It’s always a bit nerve-wracking moving my huge dobby loom, but it has landed safely and settled very happily in its new home.

Amongst the studio flotsam and jetsam is this rather cross little knitted character. He’s lived in the studio for many years now, and I think of him as a sort of studio deity - something like a Roman household god.
